Defending Democracy: January Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC) Actions

VAAC and our partners are mobilizing in response to documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) proposals that threaten voter access in Michigan.

Join us Saturday, January 24 from 12–3pm at Pages Bookshop in Detroit for Your Story. Your Power. Your Vote. This is a unique community storytelling event focused on protecting our right to vote. Please register at https://www.mobilize.us/vnp/event/880731/

Participants will receive support to develop and share their own stories about how proposed proof of citizenship requirements could impact their access to the ballot. Training and tools will be provided to help shape these stories for public testimony, organizing, and advocacy.

This event centers people most affected by these restrictions, including justice-impacted individuals, naturalized citizens, students, low-income voters, those who have changed their names, transgender voters, and people who move frequently.

Lunch will be provided. All are welcome, but registration is required. Join the fight to protect voting rights in Michigan!

Virtual Day of Action: January 29

Participate in a statewide virtual day of action to raise awareness and take collective action against barriers to voting. These actions are part of a coordinated effort to ensure every eligible voter can participate fully in our democracy.

More details and ways to get involved will be available through our events calendar soon.
