Detroit voices unite for safety, accountability, and change
This past weekend, VAAC joined the NAACP Detroit Branch at Freedom Weekend 2025 for a powerful public policy lunch and panel discussion: “How We Keep Us Safe – A Call to Action for Police Accountability and Community Care.”

The conversation was urgent and deeply rooted in lived experience. Panelists like Tony Gant and Ronnie Waters stood alongside allies from MI-CEMI, Safe & Just Michigan, Organization of Exonerees and more — demonstrating what real coalition power looks like. Together, we lifted up community-based solutions and policy change that center healing, accountability, and liberation.
We’re proud to show up in solidarity with directly impacted leaders across Michigan. These relationships are at the heart of what makes our movement strong.
Voting is just the beginning. Organizing keeps us going.
