Join VAAC on May 8 at 12:30 PM for a conversation on jail voting, what it is, who it impacts, and why access in jails across Michigan continues to be a challenge.
In Michigan, many people in jail are legally eligible to vote. But in most cases, they have one way to do it: by mail.
We’ll walk through the barriers people face, including how mail-in voting works in jails, where timelines, mail handling, and coordination can determine whether someone is able to cast a ballot.
We’ll also talk about what needs to change and how you can help remove the barriers that prevent eligible voters from participating.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, this conversation will focus on the connection between mental health, policy, and access, including discussion of legislation impacting communities across Michigan.
